Manufacturing in Switzerland, sales in 100+ countries worldwide. Sister companies under ALTANA: BYK-Chemie (Wesel/Geretsried), ELANTAS, ECKART. The UV line is central to finishing packaging and label print (gloss finishing, effect coatings).

    Heinrich Boli-Salzmann, chemist, founded the Schmid Rhyner varnish factory in Zurich-Wiedikon in 1880. Specialization from start on print finishing varnishes. In 1953 production was relocated to Adliswil (Soodring 29) — today's HQ location.

    ALTANA AG acquires Schmid Rhyner (2019)

    On 20 December 2019 ALTANA AG (Wesel, Germany) acquired Schmid Rhyner AG from Swiss conglomerate Conzzeta. Integration into ALTANA's ACTEGA division as "ACTEGA Schmid Rhyner AG". Schmid Rhyner becomes sister company of BYK-Chemie, ELANTAS and ECKART under ALTANA umbrella. Strategic rationale: ALTANA strengthens its print finishing portfolio.
