Spinoff from Royal Philips as Philips Lighting N.V. (2016)
On 1 February 2016 the Lighting division of Royal Philips was formally spun off as a separate entity "Philips Lighting N.V." Heritage goes back to 1891, when Philips founded its incandescent lamp factory in Eindhoven — making the UV lamp line over 130 years old. Today's Signify is the direct heir of this lighting tradition.

On 27 May 2016 Philips Lighting went public on Euronext Amsterdam under ticker "LIGHT". IPO price EUR 20.00 per share, initial valuation USD 3.4B, with 25% of shares initially offered. First IPO of a lighting-focused subsidiary of a global conglomerate.

Renamed from Philips Lighting to Signify (2018)
On 16 May 2018 "Philips Lighting N.V." was officially renamed to "Signify N.V." Legally no new entity — ticker LIGHT unchanged. Strategically: less dependence on the Philips brand, own corporate identity. Philips brand continues under license for lamp products.

In 2024 Signify discontinued sales of Philips-branded UV-C products to consumer markets. UV-C sales since then only in professional sector (healthcare, food/beverage, education etc.) and as non-Philips-branded OEM supply to third parties. Background: consolidation post-pandemic consumer boom.
