About this system
HERO21 by ICA Traffic GmbH (Dortmund) — marketed as the first UV-C disinfection robot developed and built in Germany (launched 2020 with OMRON, co-developed with Ruhr University Bochum). Fully autonomous: navigates rooms on an OMRON LD mobile base with 360° lidar, self-docks to charge (~3.5 h battery), controlled via tablet from a separate room. **Safety interlock:** a presence-sensor system prevents activation if a person is in the room + verbal warning announcement + wireless door sensors stop operation if a door opens (operates only in unoccupied spaces). Coverage ~15 min / 25 m², reaches ceilings to 10 m; disinfects surfaces, equipment and indoor air. In use in DE/AT/CH/ZA.
